Hi All,

After the July's feature event (Stargazing at Pinos), I've met so many friendly and sincere Porsche members. They are knowledgeable and very caring too! Terry and I felt at home with all of you and we had a great time, waiting for the next event! Thanks for the warm welcome in the club! :D

Four suggestions:
1. This Forum should be ulilized more for all members! This is your lifeline and pulse of the Porsche Club members that is realtime, between the monthly Auspuff Magazine issues. All I see here is John, Roy and myself! Maybe I'll make a plug for this the next breakfast.
2. Radio communications (CB or FWS radio) for the lead car and last car (at least) to keep a group drive together. During our driving event on highway 33, one of the Porsche's in the back of the line had a flat tire and I had know idea what was going on until I stopped at the last queue spot.
3. I would like to set up a monthly "impromptu morning drive" for two hours in the Santa Monica Mountains including a nice lunch in the area. It gives everyone to get your "Porsche Legs" stretched and some more camaraderie and fun! It can be posted on this forum. Any takers?
4. I'd like to set up a drivers session (with some help) at the "Streets of Willow" Track, aimed for beginners and also ladies (Barbara, are you reading this?)! It woud be a blast, safe and will make all of us better drivers on the public roads too! Terry had took this course THREE TIMES and has a lot of fun. Yes, she passed each time too. It was "Danny McKeever's Fast Lane Driving School".

Any ideas??? :?:

I'm part of 30 + forums on the net. The wealth of info that is out there through this format is staggering. I hope that our members open up and get on board. :)

Hal,
All are great ideas and suggestions.

I try to get for a drive at least twice a month and it tends to be solo as with 3 kids and a full business life most of those drives tend to be at night or really early morning. But with a targa the star gazing is pretty good.

As for the DE at WSIR I can help with that. At this moment I co-Chair the A/X events and I will continue to do so for several more years at least. I have my POC STS license and to do about 6-8 track events a year, though not this year as I can only squeeze in 3. I also organize a few events for some other clubs and have done those at WSIR, both Streets and the Big Track, along with Buttonwillow. I can give a cost break down and review the PCA Rules as to DE's to make sure we comply. We can always do a track day out side of the club if drivers are ok with that. Most of my DE days that I organize have instructors and class time for first timers or those that wish/need it. You do need to go out side the local pool of PCA Members to make that happen.

If you see me at the next breakfast please find me to discuss as I have had discussions with more then several members who feel that a "Motorsports" committee might be helpful to address and organize events like DE's, A/X's and perhaps Rally's. I know I would love to be part of that.

Again, all great ideas. We just need to get some excitement about them and then make it happen.

Hal,

Glad you're enjoying the club and the forum. I'm with you on the impromptu drives and Willow Springs. I live in Woodland Hills and love to take my 964 for a quick trek through the canyons. It's probably best if they're kept as casual gatherings for legal reasons, but If they're posted I'll try to make them.

I've been wanting to do something like Willow Springs as well. I've never done it, but I'm itching to push my car beyond the usual legal limits without concern of a ticket or taking out a cyclist. I expect to be at the next Camarillo Breakfast as well.

Thanks Dan, Randy and Roy, for your comments.
I'll be at the Camarillo Breakfast and why don't stick around and talk a bit about the "impromtu drives" and the track days for beginners?

As to the "impropmtu drives", I talked to Nick last week and he mentioned that they should be sanctioned and covered by insurance from PCA or the club as long as we follow the club's rules and regulations. The drives can be incorporated in the R.U.F. meetings on the 3rd Thursdays of the month. Or weekends.

The use of "Streets of Willow" track for beginners can be a fun day! Let's get some more input and try to pull it off this year!

PCA GGR is having a "Day Away From Work" on Oct 4th @ Streets. Price is good and should be a great event for first timers and veterans. Work will keep me "away" but thought I would put it out there.

Speaking of impromptu drives, here's one I did with another group a few years ago:

Just about any drive that includes Piuma and Stunt roads is a good one.

Turns out I won't be able to make this Saturday's breakfast due to family duties, but I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with. Hopefully you'll post it on the forum!

Nice drive Randy. I take it all the time!

Add Latigo Canyon, La Tuna Road, Decker, and many others. :D
I did all these with Miata Club and the Lotus Club.

We'll find out more interested members that want to join us.

We do routine impromptu drives within the SBR all the time. Perhaps you would be interested in joining with our subgroup that does this. However, we focus our drives upon Santa Barbara County and the region immediately near Santa Barbara.
